Igembe Central now a sub county

Igembe Central has been gazetted  a sub county and has received a new Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Jacob Otieno.

Igembe Central was split from its former south before the 2013 General elections and its first Member of Parliament is Kiringo Kubai.

Speaking during the ceremony at Kangeta in Igembe Central Headquarters, Meru County Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga urged the new Deputy County Commissioner to fight illicit brew.

Nyagwanga told area chiefs that many lives have been lost through illicit brews, saying they would be sacked if any illicit brew were found in their locations.

The Meru County Commissioner also urged Otieno to help fight cattle rustling, which is rampant in the sub county.

He further urged the DCC to help in the enrollment of children in school as most dropouts are from the Igembe area.

Area Mp Kiringo Kubai urged the government to increase personnel from the national government as the sub county has few.

Otieno on his part said he was ready to work for the people of Igembe Central and help them improve their lives and bring development in the area.

Elsewhere, Homa Bay County has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with at least ten companies to start mega development projects.

Speaking during the ongoing Homa Bay International Investment Conference, County Executive Member for Trade, Industrialisation, Investment and Cooperatives, Professor Tom Ogada, said there was a lot of positive response from private sector investors.

The ongoing conference has attracted more than 200 investors locally and internationally, keen to tap into the county’s rich economic base.

Weighed down by a heavy wage bill and inconsistent remittance of funds from the National Treasury, the county government is now targeting local and foreign investors to create wealth through Public Private Partnerships.

Ogada said the two-day conference was a demonstration that devolution has changed the architecture of development.
