Igembe: Father kills 7-year-old son over a mobile phone

Police in Laare, Igembe North, Meru County are holding a 27-year-old man on allegations of killing his 7-year-old son.

Evans Mutwiri is said to have assaulted his son and badly injuring him after a neighbour informed him that he had picked his mobile phone.

According to the deceased minor’s mother, she was informed that her son was seriously injured and had been rushed to Nyambene sub-county hospital before being referred to Meru Teaching and Referral hospital. The parents are currently separated.

Laare OCS Ezra Sambu said the boy died while undergoing treatment saying investigations are underway and the man will likely face murder charges.

Sambu has appealed to parents not to use excessive force while disciplining their children.
