Ill not run as an independent candidate Mary Wambui

Othaya MP Mary Wambui has announced that she will not run as an independent candidate in the General Elections, adding that she will instead direct her energy toward President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-lection bid.

Wambui – who lost to Gachuki Mugambi in the recently concluded Jubilee Party Primaries with 12,524 votes to Mugambi’s 20228 – assured her constituents that she would sit out this race.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after issuing Ksh.15 million in bursaries, Wambui said that her desire is to see the Othaya people get education and development, whether or not she is on the ballot.

She urged her constituents to turn up in large numbers to support Jubilee Party in the August 8 polls, saying that giving Uhuru a second term would enable the country to witness even more growth and development.

Wambui also took a swipe at the Opposition’s five-man lineup – one that would see the Raila Odinga-led team introduce three new positions –, saying they were overly selfishly focused on getting plum positions, and not advancement of the country.

The Independent Electoral and Bounderies Commsion on Monday announced that over 1400 individuals will run as independents in the upcoming election.

A section of sitting leaders, among them Kiambu’s William Kabogo and Nakuru County boss Kinuthia Mbugua have vowed to defend their seats as independents after losing out in the party primaries.
