Illicit Brew Impounded in Naivasha

Sergeant Zablon Ombati who led a raid to the area said that the brew was poisonous as it had lethal substances.

“We impounded over 600000 litres of kangara which had been hidden deep in the ground in a thicket.”Ombati said.

The police sergeant added that they were not going to relent until the brew is totally eradicated in the area.

The police officers who were carrying out the operation were left in shock after the residents confessed openly that nothing would stop them from brewing.

One of the residents, Juma Wafula said that they earned their living by brewing as it was their only source of income.

“We have educated and fed our families through the sale of Kangara which is fit for consumption by all.”Wafula said.

Wafula added that over 100 residents were engaging in the trade, which has helped them abandon engaging in crime.

Another resident Peter Mbugua said that the trade had provided employment to a number of youths in the area and that they were not ready to abandon it.

“The government should provide us with employment if it wants us to stop this trade.”He said.

Police have however vowed not to relent until illicit brewing menace comes to an end.
