Im not responsible for your misfortunes Governor Irungu to opponent

Laikipia Governor, Joshua Irungu, has distanced himself from a recent case where his gubernatorial rival Nderitu Muriithi was slammed with a fine of Ksh 500,000 by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Tribunal for breaching the code of conduct for independent candidates.

In a case filed by a Laikipia resident, it was reported that Governor Irungu accused his opponent Mr. Muriithi for what he termed as ‘misrepresentation of facts with an intention to confuse the voters’.

“The propaganda that is going around that am responsible for the case where Muriithi was accused of using Jubilee colors is wrong. I have nothing to do with the case. Muriithi and I fight for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and I have no issue with my opponent using portrays of Uhuru Kenyatta in his posters,” said Governor Irungu.

Apart from the fine, the IEBC Tribunal also instructed Mr. Muriithi, an independent candidate, to pull down the banners and posters he used during his campaigns including Jubilee Party colors and President’s portraits.

However, Mr. Muriithi, speaking during a his campaign rallies in Laikipia West on Friday, July 21, said that he will respect the ruling of the court and the tribunal, noting that the decision will not deter his bid to unseat Governor Irungu in the coming August polls for the second time.

“I am a law abiding citizen and we will remove the banners, but i will continue campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta in all my campaign rallies. Governor Irungu should no that opening a case against me will not make me fear to run against him in August polls,” said Mr. Muriithi.
