Im not to blame for Siaya County water shortage Rasanga

Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga has denied that his government is responsible for the perennial water problems in the region.

The governor has instead blamed the persistent water shortage in major towns within the county on the Siaya-Bondo (SIBO) Water Service Company’s poor management.

Rasanga regretted that the management of the water service provider has failed to pay its staff among other bills, hampering the steady supply of water to Siaya residents.

He stated that at some point his administration was forced to disband the SIBO Board of Directors but they went to court, noting that this is the reason why water service provision services have not been steady in Siaya County.

The governor made the remarks at Pal Primary School in Alego/Usonga Constituency where he assured the residents that the matter would soon be solved to enable steady water supply across the county.

Rasanga promised that water would be his flagship project if he were re-elected governor of Siaya County, stating that he is going to address the problem once and for all to save locals from going long distances in search of clean water.

SIBO workers have been on a go-slow for more than four months over salary arrears and unremitted statutory deductions which have accumulated to over Ksh10 million since November last year.

Efforts to get comments from the SIBO management regarding the accusations failed after the company’s Managing Director Mr Julius Nyadiango’s calls went unanswered.
