Im still in the 2022 presidential race, says Governor Mutua

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has insisted that his bid for the 2022 Presidential race is still on, adding that he will contest on a platform of rapid development.

Speaking during a funeral service in Kathangari, Embu County, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader also said that his decision to support President Kenyatta’s bid for a second term during the previous election was informed by a desire for “continuity for programs that he had initiated, specifically, the Standard Gauge Railway.”

He further added that come 2022, he would endeavor to consolidate the gains made in the next five years for the benefit of the people of Kenya.

Mutua also expressed regret that a higher percentage of the country’s revenue in 2017 was spent on electioneering matters and that “this is still impacting negatively on the country’s development agenda.”

He noted that those in public services are consuming a lot of public funds while so much of the revenue is also being wasted on corruption vices.

“It is high time that people took demands for accountability a notch higher to redeem the image of our public service,” said Mutua.
