Impeachment motion against Kaimenyi in Parliament

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has approved an impeachment motion against Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi.

The motion filed by Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga, makes Kaimenyi the second Cabinet Secretary to face impeachment after Devolution CS Anne Waiguru was subjected to the same process.

Odanga has now been directed to issue a notice before the House adjourns its sittings on Thursday.

The MP is accusing Kaimenyi of high handedness in handling education matters saying he does not work well with other stakeholders.

Waiguru’s impeachment process was initiated by Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi who accused her of gross misconduct and violation of the constitution.

Linturi cited the sacking of National Youth Service (NYS) Director General Kiplimo Rugut and Youth Enterprise Fund chair Evans Gor Semalang’o as evidence that Waiguru was intimidating officers working under her.

The motion did not, however, kick off after Linturi failed to show up in the House on the material day.

Linturi had so far gone to the extent of convincing 98 MPs, most of who are from Jubilee, to sign his petition to remove the CS from office over gross misconduct.
