A memorial park with 148 trees, each representing a soul taken during the barbaric attack on Garissa University College on April 2, 2015, was unveiled this Saturday at the institution.

Governor Nathif Jama also unveiled a memorial plaque with the names of the 148 victims in the event attended by several leaders including National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.
A candle-lit vigil is set to be held later in the day to pay tribute to the victims.
A similar vigil will be held from 4pm at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) by the Universities and College Peace Students Association; it will be attended by IG JosephBoinet and other top government officials.
In Eldoret, the Fellowship of Christian Unions Kenya (FOCUS Kenya) with Moi University counseling department and former student leaders from Garissa University College, jointly organised a memorial service to celebrate the lives that were lost.
The event, held at the Moi University Main Campus, focused on recounting the journey of recovery for the survivors.
The ceremony also saw the launch of a book titled And the Sparrows Fell – a publication that focuses on the events of the fateful day.
