The rookie singer won the coveted title with a Sh1.2 million price tag following a tough contest in the show’s grand finale on Monday Night.

Phyllis, known as Phy on stage, was contending against Uganda’s rookie, Spirit Soul.

Maisha Superstar, a music TV reality show in the region, began 13 weeks ago with the search for the final and ultimate star newbie.

The first four episodes of the show saw an elimination of a number of contestants after going through rigorous auditions by their mentors.

The contest had brought together the biggest names in the East African entertainment industry, who acted as mentors.

Some of the seasoned artistes included Nameless and Rabbit from Kenya, Maurice Kirya and Jose Chameleone from Uganda and AY and Shaa from Tanzania.

In the finale, the contenders performed duets with their mentors.

The crowd went wild when Chameleone together with Spirit Soul performed Valu Valu and Wale Wale.
