Independent candidates endorse Uhuru to run for a second term
Independent candidates supporting the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta met at the Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi for a national convention to spell out their agenda as well as address their common challenges.
The over 4,500 candidates, who have since formed an association, endorsed President Kenyatta as their presidential candidate and adopted a memorandum to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on safeguarding their constitutional rights among other issues.
According to the group’s interim Secretary General, who is also the Tetu Member of Parliament, Ndung’u Gethenji, the candidates had invited President Kenyatta to the meeting, as they seek to level the playing field against their opponents in the ruling coalition.
This comes even as Jubilee Party held major political rallies in Laikipia and Isiolo to consolidate their votes for President Kenyatta’s re-election.
The host, Laikipia Governor, Joshua Irungu, on Friday said that all leaders from Mt Kenya region will hold a consultative meeting on voter mobilisation mechanisms.
