Intelligence officer shot dead by gunmen

A senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer was on Thursday shot dead by unknown gunmen in Mombasa’s Old Town area.

The Nairobi-based officer identified as Hashim Omar was allegedly confronted and shot five times by two gunmen.

The deceased is said to have been attacked while on his way home just minutes after attending Magaribi prayers at the Hanisa Mosque.

The officer is said to have arrived in Mombasa three days ago to see his family.

This comes barely two months after another CID officer was gunned down by gunmen in the same area.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and senior police officers from the area said investigations are underway and the culprits will be arrested.
