Inter-Clan Clashes Leave 14 Schools Closed In Wajir

This fresh tide came during the mass burial of 11 people who were killed yesterday in Gunana.

Several others were injured in the attack by raiders suspected to have crossed over from the neighbouring Mandera County.

The two communities from both Wajir and Mandera counties have been fighting each other in the recent past.

The attack occurred despite security having been beefed up in the area.

At least 13 people were killed last month in attacks pitting the Garre and Degodia.

The latest flare-up started on May 13th 2014 when three men were shot and killed on the Burmayo-Fincharo road between Wajir and Mandera counties.

The killings occured even as elders from the two warring communities held meetings to defuse the growing tension between them.

Area Deputy County Commissioner Yakob Narengo has re-assured residents that law enforcement agencies were working round the clock to provide security.
