Intercontinental Hotel driver claims he was drugged, lorry stolen

A Intercontinental Hotel driver suspected to have stolen a motor vehicle valued at Ksh. 6million was on Friday detained for 10 days pending investigations.

Bernard Kyalo is alleged to have stolen a lorry on July 12 and disappeared with it for five days.

On July 17, he re-appeared with the same vehicle with Reg. No. KBU 994Z, ISUZU claiming that he had been drugged and the lorry stolen.

When he failed to give a satisfactory account of his claims, he was arrested.

Appearing before Magistrate Hellen Okwani, Kyalo claimed that he had been admitted to a Nairobi hospital for treatment after the incident.

Investigating officers said they need more time to verify his claims.

“We have requested CCTV footage from IC3 and Intercontinental Hotel to try and establish the movement of the vehicle,” the court was told.

The petitioner requested for 10 days for further investigations.

Magistrate Okwani ruled the respondent be remanded for 10 days at Central Police Station awaiting investigations to conclude.
