Investor, county govt differ over land ownership

A Mediheal Group of Hospitals director in Nandi County and the county government have differed over the ownership of a piece of land, with the county government insisting that the investor was conned into buying land belonging to the public.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday at his Kapsabet office, Nandi County executive in charge of land, John Chumo, said that conmen sold the property belonging to the county government to the investor without him knowing.

According to Mr Chumo, Dr Swarup Mishrah had intended to use the land to set up a hospital in Nandi County when he got conned of a whooping Ksh19 million by cartels.

Chumo said it was unfortunate that Mr Mishrah lost that much money and urged investors to work with the county in order to avoid such situations.

“We will work with the Ministry of Lands in the national government to ensure that cases of land fraud are dealt with conclusively,” he said.

Chumo at the same time gave people who have encroached into county land a 100-days ultimatum to vacate the land, failure to which they will be arrested.

“The title deed that the investor (Dr Mishra) has is fake since the county government is the owner of the said land,” said Chumo.

However, when contacted for comment Dr Mishra insisted that he is the owner of the land in question and has all the transaction papers to show he made payments.
