IPSOS poll was fabricated to hoodwink Kenyans, Wetangula claims

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co-principal Moses Wetangula has criticized a recent opinion poll which showed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s approval rating had shot up.

Wetangula claims Ipsos fabricated the poll in favour of the government, arguing that the poll was contradicting itself.

Speaking in Alego Usonga- Siaya County, the Senate minority leader maintained that the opinion polls are meant to dupe Kenyans that President Kenyatta is popular.

“That is a publicity stunt and a public relations gimmick to hoodwink Kenyans to think that Jubilee is popular and that president is popular…and [he] can be reelected. The wananchi will decide next year who is more popular,” stated Wetangula.

In the poll released two days ago, President Kenyatta’s approval rating had risen to 68%, up from 47% last November.

The rise was credited to development in infrastructure, education and growth in the country’s economy.

Wetangula said the President and his Deputy William Ruto are bragging about development while the economy continues to sink.

The CORD co-principal asked the Government to address insecurity, further questioning why the ruling coalition has remained mum over the recent assassinations.

“Last month our son from Bungoma, Jacob Juma, was killed. Last week, three people were killed in Nairobi – a lawyer called Willie Kimani, his client and taxi driver. To date, we have not heard the government say anything about these deaths. We want the government to address the killing of these three men,” he said.

Taking CORD’s mantle

The Ford Kenya leader also requested CORD co principal Raila Odinga to back his presidential bid, come 2017.

“In 1992, in Luhyaland, we voted for Mzee Jaramogi. In 2007, we voted for my brother Raila, and we did the same in 2013. In this life, we must help one another,” stated the Bungoma County Senator.

Wetangula, however, stated that should any of the principles win fairly during nominations he will back and support them.

Wetangula made the remarks during a fundraising at Nyasita Mixed Secondary School in Alego/Usonga constituency where he asked the Luo community to support his 2017 presidential bid.
