Irresponsible police officers will be dismissed Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery has warned that police officers found contravening the code of conduct will be dismissed from the service.

Nkaissery said that police officers must put the safety of citizens first and jealously guard the national interests.

He said that those doing their jobs as required will be promoted and transferred to best working stations in the country.

The CS, who was speaking during the opening of the Heads of Security Workshop in Nairobi, said the police force is about service to the citizenry.

The conference aims at strengthening security measures in the country and has brought together top security agents from across the country.

Nkaiserry said that terrorism and radicalization remain the main challenges facing the country adding that national security is increasingly facing a major threat from terrorists who target innocent Kenyans.

He further cautioned Kenyans, especially politicians, to avoid fanning ethnic hatred through hate speech or ethnic contempt.

This comes a few days after the Cabinet Secretary blamed a few rogue police officers for being corrupt. He also accused the civilians of being a key player in corruption by giving bribes to the police officers to compromise and defeat justice.

During the first National Police Service (NPS) Conference, Nkaissery said his office was aware that some officers were being hired to illegitimately advance business interests.

“NPS is not corrupt. It is the public that is corrupt. If anyone gives you money, arrest him or her,” said Nkaissery.

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, his deputies Samuel Arachi (APS), and Joel Kitili (KPS), as well as Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro, urged all police units to work as a team despite their distinct mandates, saying all aim at the provision of security.

“We have seen good results in stations where different units have been utilized like the Criminal Intelligence Unit. We must move away from traditional security to intelligence-led security,” said Muhoro.

“We must always work as a team because we have one objective of ensuring safety and security of Kenyans,” said Boinnet.
