Is a Mudavadi-Raila coalition in the offing?

The Amani National Congress (ANC) now says that it will hold a two-day meeting to discuss critical political issues among them the amendments to the Political Parties Act and formation of a super alliance.

In a statement to newsrooms, ANC says that the joint National Executive Committee (NEC) and Parliamentary Group meeting, which will be chaired by party leader Musalia Mudavadi in Machakos, will take place on Thursday, October 20 to Saturday, October 22.

ANC says that it will pay close attention to amendments made to the Political Parties Act bearing in mind that it (ANC) is a fully fledged Parliamentary party with five Members of Parliament and 56 Members of the County Assembly.

“The meeting will take stock of the import of the amendments to the Political Parties Act and Elections Act with a view of positioning ANC for elections in 2017,” read the statement.

On emerging details that Mudavadi would form a coalition with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, ANC also said that it would review the developments.

“Review the emerging political developments in coalition building particularly the formation of National Super Alliance (NASA) or Muungano Maalum spearheaded by ANC Party Leader.”

The meeting will also discuss “a revised party constitution as approved by Registrar of Political Parties with a view of filling newly created NEC positions.”

“Deliberate on also how to operationalize corporate membership in the party constitution with a view to welcoming other parties who have requested to become corporate members of ANC.”

The party further says that it will discuss its roadmap to 2017 elections with a view to mapping campaign result-oriented strategies which include ratification of ANC Party Policy Guide.

It will also unveil the new ANC Women League Charter in line with party gender inclusivity strategy.
