Is DP Ruto a student of Trump on Twitter?

Deputy President William Ruto has once again launched a scathing attack on a newspaper after a report that linked him to a land ownership dispute.

On Thursday night, Dr. Ruto posted a picture of the Daily Nation newspaper with the headline ‘Murumbi land ownership row haunts Ruto’.

“The now persistent, obviously sponsored FAKE NEWS by hired bankrupt media that finds it difficult to make a sale without the name Ruto. Bure kabisa. Riswa!,” he said on Twitter.

The Deputy President’s responses to Kenyan media have been compared to that of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Negative stories touching on the DP have in the past seen media companies called out on his Twitter page.

On September 1, Dr. Ruto lashed out at the Standard newspaper over a story that claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta had snubbed his ally at the airport.

The headline that read ‘Uhuru in new airport drama over Ruto ally’ was referring to an incident where photographers were allegedly told to delete photos of Nandi Governor Stephen Sang.

DP Ruto posted a picture of the newspaper saying: “Kenyans can see through standard media’s desperate gutter journalism lies of drama. JUBILEE is built on rock solid philosophy and beliefs that no amount of scheming & propaganda can undermine.”

Two weeks earlier, The Star newspaper had published a story that alleged that Dr. Ruto’s allies were plotting to scuttle the Uhuru-Raila referendum.

MPs mentioned in the story were Caleb Kositany (Soy), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) and Oscar Sudi (Kapseret).

Dr. Ruto again took to Twitter rubbishing the claims in the publication. “This is what constitutes FAKE NEWS. I know it is difficult but newspapers should try selling without the ‘Ruto‘ mention. Please! Tafadhali woiye!” he said.

Meanwhile in the U.S., President Donald Trump on Wednesday attacked U.S. media over how they reported about his comments on border security.

“Now the press is trying to sell the fact that I wanted a Moat stuffed with alligators and snakes, with an electrified fence and sharp spikes on top, at our Southern Border. I may be tough on Border Security, but not that tough. The press has gone Crazy. Fake News!” he said.

A day earlier, Trump had tweeted: “The Corrupt Media refuses to cover this! ” in reference to a video of former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Reports indicate that Trump has tweeted over 17,000 times since he took office four years ago with a substantial number targeted at journalists.

On September 30 he tweeted: “The Fake News Media wants to stay as far away as possible from the Ukraine and China deals made by the Bidens. A Corrupt Media is so bad for our Country! In actuality, the Media may be even more Corrupt than the Bidens, which is hard to do!”

CNN published the three messages as part of their article titled ‘All the President’s tweets.”

On Tuesday, an opinion piece in the New York Times called for Trump to be suspended from Twitter.

The article by Kara Swisher that said Trump’s itchy fingers were working overtime was in response to a tweet that seemed to call for civil war if he is impeached.
