DP Ruto’s Isebania meeting called off

DP Ruto’s Isebania meeting called off

Kuria West Member of Parliament, Mathias Robi, who is also the Jubilee Party’ point man in the region, received a hostile reception at his political backyard at Isebania Town ahead of the planned Deputy President, William Ruto’s visit to launch the voter registration exercise.

The Member of Parliament who had gone to the venue to prepare ground for Mr Ruto was ‘chased away’ by rowdy youth who were chanting anti-Jubilee slogans.

Mr Robi tried pleading with the youth to maintain calm but they could hear none of that.

“We are in politics here, I want to bring the Deputy President to address you, and I know CORD has sent people from Migori to disrupt the function but we do not want to shame the DP as we did to the President when he visited us,” pleaded Robi.

The legislator, who was accompanied by very few supporters donning the Jubilee T-shirts, was forced to leave the dais saying that he is going to receive the Deputy President to visit the border town.

However, Ruto’s meeting was called off the last minute.

CORD leader, Raila Odinga, who visited the area, said he is ready to prove to Jubilee that he has the numerical strength and huge base support from voters across the country.

He said that he will show Jubilee that he has the ‘tyranny of numbers’ after he is elected the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya on August 8.

The leader of the opposition was addressing residents of Isebania where he made a visit to inspect the ongoing voter registration exercise.

He accused Jubilee administration of colluding with the outgoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials to allocate his political backyard fewer BVR kits so as to reduce the number of people who register as voters.

Odinga also urged the Kuria community to come out in large number to register as voters and also ensure that all their votes are directed to the opposition basket come August 8.

Odinga was accompanied by ODM legislators Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Edick Anyanga (Nyatike), former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayako, and Migori Women Representative aspirant, Fatuma Mohamed among other leaders.
