Isiolo deputy governor to challenge his boss in August 8 polls

Isiolo Deputy Governor, Mohamed Guleid, says he will run for governorship after Somali elders endorsed, Dr Abdi Ibrahim, to replace him (Guleid) on the deputy governor’s position.

Mohammed Guleid said his decision to vie for the gubernatorial seat was driven by the need to correct the shortcomings that have led to slow deliverance of services in the county that has been witnessed under Governor Godana Doyo.

Mr Guleid regarded the endorsement without proper consultations as null and void, since at that moment, his wife was unwell and termed the elders as inconsiderate.

According to him, the move to replace him with Dr Ibrahim is unsystematic since the right procedures were not followed as far as the community negotiated democracy policy is concerned.

In order to correct the faults, Mr Guleid proposes that the elders repeat the exercise and officially choose someone for the seat.

Early this month, the Somali community elders living in Isiolo County unanimously decided to support Dr Ibrahim in the negotiated democracy after the elders cited their disappointment in the incumbent deputy governor.
