Isiolo: One killed, 5 injured in children's home explosion

One child was killed and eight others injured by an explosive device at a children’s home in Burat Ward, Isiolo County.

Isiolo County Commissioner John Ondego  said the children at Victors Homestead Children’s home were playing with the device when it detonated.

One of the injured children is a Class Eight pupil who was set to sit the Kenya Certificate of  Primary Education (KCPE) exams this week.

The deceased, who was a 12-year-old child, died on the spot and his body was moved to the Isiolo County Referral Hospital.

The county commissioner added that after the incident police discovered and safely detonated another explosive device in the area.

The founder of the children’s home Pastor Martin Miriti expressed his regret over the incident, adding that the device might have been left behind by soldiers who trained in the area years back.

The county commissioner urged residents to be wary and report any suspicious device they spot lying unattended in in the area.
