Isiolo picked for inaugural Cinema Mashinani project

Kenyans will now have access to film equipment at county level, this coming after the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) announced that it will distribute Mobile Cinema Units at county level.

Isiolo County will be the first to benefit from this exercise, with KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua saying that the program is aimed at enabling the youth to tell their stories.

“As a young person, one will be able to tell his story, revive our cultures and moral values both from the village, counties and Kenya at large,” Mutua said.

Mutua said that the board hopes the roll out of the program will bolster anti-radicalization efforts in Isiolo County, especially since youth will have something productive and profitable to do.

The KFCB boss said Machakos would be the second County to benefit from the project, adding that Nairobi has been earmarked for the construction of a Kshs50 million mini-theatre.

Speaking in Machakos County Friday, Mutua thanked Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua for donating land to the board for the construction of an entertainment hub.

Mutua said that the project will officially roll out in July, and that a donor has already come on board to support the country wide exercise.

The film commission boss asked young people to embrace the program, as it would also be a key way of preserving and promoting their culture.
