Isiolo police recover stolen animals in Turkana

Police in Turkana County have recovered more than 23 cows that were stolen from Isiolo mid last month.

The police, in conjunction with rangers drawn from Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), are believed to have recovered the animals from Turkana bandits who raided Leparua area in Isiolo on April 18 and stole 31 cows while abducting a 14-year-old who was herding them, although the kid was released shortly.

According to Isiolo County Deputy Commissioner, Mwachaunga Chaunga, police pursued the bandits and were able to recover the livestock after two weeks.

Mr Mwachaunga, who was speaking during the handing over of the cows to their owners in Ngeramara, said that so far no arrests of the perpetrators have been made, while promising to continue with the operation until all the animals have been recovered.

“Cases of cattle rustling have reduced considerably since the police started working closely with rangers from conservancies under the Northern Rangelands Trust,” said the Deputy County Commissioner.

Kital Arandile, owner of the stolen cows, thanked the officers and asked the police to ensure that the remaining animals have been recovered too.

“I am very happy that my cows have been recovered. I want to plead with the security team to ensure that the remaining eight cows have been found,” said Mr. Kital, in an interview with Citizen Digital.
