Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu jets in

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu jetted into the country Monday night for his first ever official visit.

The plane carrying the Premier and his delegation of 70 business and government leaders touched down at the Kenyatta International Airport at around 10:00pm.

The premiere’s visit comes at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who extended the invitation during his visit to Israel in February.

According to an earlier statement by State House, during Netanyahu’s visit, President Kenyatta will be keen to deepen trade and investment between Israel and Kenya during Netanyahu’s visit.

Kenya will also be looking to engage the Israeli business leaders who will accompany Prime Minister Netanyahu on this visit.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is the first incumbent Head of Israel’s government to visit Kenya and it is also his first stop on a tour of Africa.

“During this visit, President Kenyatta and the Israeli Prime Minister will sign or reaffirm these agreements, signifying that relations between the two nations have entered a new phase of closer cooperation and partnership.”
Netanyahu’s visit is seen as a move to create market linkages and explore investment opportunities.

Earlier Monday, Netanyahu was in Entebbe, Uganda where he attended the commemoration of the 40th year since the dramatic rescue from a hostage situation 100 of its citizens and also where his brother Yonathan Netanyahu was killed.
