Its not over yet! Assembly demands report on Nyabururu girls who were secretly hospitalised

A report on the alleged case of food poisoning at Nyabururu Girls National School is expected to be tabled at the Kisii County Assembly in two weeks.

Speaker David Kombo said the Kisii CeC in charge of health must table a report concerning the incident that saw students hospitalised ‘secretly’.

“We want to know the number of students who were affected and hospitalized, the current situation in the school and measures put in place to avoid recurrence of the same,” a statement from Kitutu central ward MCA Duke Nyarang’o reads.

According to him, due to the huge population of students at Nyabururu Girls, there is need for the health department to give a detailed report on the current situation.

Several students are alleged to have been ‘secretly’ hospitalized after a case of suspected food poisoning two weeks ago.

The school management however denied the reports and even blocked concerned parents from seeing their children.

A medical officer at Nyangena Hospital confirmed that at least 20 students were taken for treatment.

In 2016, some teachers at the same school were accused of assaulting students despite the ban on corporal punishment.

Parents who turned up after getting wind of the situation were denied entry.

When the Principal Emelda Onchenge was interdicted over the incident, students went on the rampage forcing anti-riot police to intervene.
