It's official! James Nyoro is the new Kiambu Governor

James Nyoro has finally been sworn in as the new Kiambu Governor.

He was sworn at 12:46pm on Friday, January 31 by Justice John Onyiego and in the presence of Kiambu Chief Magistrate Patricia Gichohi.

“The law has been complied with fully,” the Chief Magistrate said.

There was ululation after Governor Nyoro signed the certificate of inauguration, officially taking over the reins at the helm of the Kiambu County Government.

This makes his predecessor Ferdinard Waititu the first governor in the history of Kenya to be successfully removed from office.

Waititu was kicked out of office by the Senate on three charges: Gross Violation of the Constitution & Public Finance Management Act; Crimes Under the National Law; and Gross Misconduct/Abuse of Office.

Members of the Kiambu County Assembly had impeached him in December last year and their vote was upheld by the Senate on Wednesday.

Waititu had moved to the High Court in a bid to stop the swearing in of Nyoro as the county boss.

His move saw the ceremony postponed from Thursday to Friday.

However on Friday morning, Justice Weldon Korir said that if the stops the swearing in, then he will be overstepping the court’s mandate by ordering a judge not to proceed with the ceremony.

The matter is to be heard before Justice James Makau on Monday, February 3, 2020.
