Midiwo, Oburu Odinga differ on Siaya County governance

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo and nominated MP Dr Oburu Odinga have differed over the leadership style of Siaya Governor, Cornel Rasanga.

Midiwo faulted the manner in which Rasanga’s administration has been handling the affairs of the county, accusing him of mismanaging the county’s resources.

He observed that CORD leader Raila Odinga’s persistent struggle for devolution was to change people’s livelihoods but not to enrich a few individuals, adding that he will stand firm to ensure Rasanga and his leadership does not continue swindling public funds.

The Gem MP, who vowed to ensure Governor Rasanga does not retain the seat in the 2017 General Election, said that he will not sit back and watch a few individuals betray Mr. Odinga, who spent years in detention to deliberate the country.

Midiwo, who was speaking at a church function in Bondo constituency, has at the same time put on notice all the gubernatorial aspirants saying they should come out with a clear plan of what they intend to do for the people of Siaya if they want to be elected.

He stated that the people would not be lied to, saying individuals will be elected based on their manifestos.

Dr. Oburu, who was speaking at the same function, however, differed with Midiwo arguing that he (Midiwo) cannot claim that Governor Rasanga is corrupt when he has no clear evidence on the alleged misappropriation of the public funds.

The nominated MP stated that the oversight work at the county lies squarely with the Members of the County Assembly who should scrutinize the financial expenditure and invite the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the matter.
