A group of jigger survivors in Murang’a County have received their first dividends since venturing into banana farming.

The 100 survivors who turned into farming under Kigumo Ahadi Kenya self-help group expressed their delight with the payment after the banana was harvested from their two-acre farm located in Maragua constituency.

Speaking during the end of year party in Karega Primary School in Kigumo constituency, the beneficiaries said the new venture will transform their lives for the better by improving their livelihood.

James Kimani, a beneficiary of the project, said they felt indebted to all who came to their rescue and helped change their lives for the best.

Kimani noted that many of the families had suffered for long adding that they were now empowered and were in a position to fight the jigger menace.

“The banana project has generated income and provided food security to the community and it has helped improve sustainability.”

The project dubbed as Ahadi Kenya Banana Livelihood Programme has benefited many families with majority now able to provide for their families with basic necessities.

On his part Ahadi Kenya Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Kamau said the survivors could not cater for the needs of their families before but things have changed for the better.
