Jigger Survivors Score Highly In KCPE Exams

The anti-jigger NGO Ahadi Kenya Trust CEO Stanley Kamau has said this is out of a number of more than 3,000 jiggers survivors who sat for the examinations countrywide.

Kamau noted that this is as a result of a vigorous campaign conducted by his firm in conjunction with other partners to eradicate jiggers in 500 primary schools which have all improved in academic performance.

The CEO was speaking at Gatanga shopping center where he met 25 candidates from the area who passed in their KCPE and secured slots in provincial and national schools.

While issuing prizes to the candidates, Kamau said most of them are from extremely poor backgrounds and appealed to sponsors to offer their support.

He said no child who has received an admission letter to join a particular school will miss out due to lack of fees.

He however urged more stakeholders to help sponsor the children through their secondary school education and even to university level.

Kamau pledged to continue monitoring the progress of the students in their schooling saying education is the only way to break the cycle of poverty in most families in Murang’a.

Eric Gachuhi  one of the beneficiaries of the anti-jigger campaign and a former pupil at Mabanda primary school scored 391 marks and has been admitted to Njiris boys high school.

The 13 year old said his dreams of becoming a civil engineer were revived when he was treated from jiggers which had severely affected his studies.

Faith Nyambura another beneficiary from Gatunyu primary school scored 355 marks and has a secured a slot at Kamahuha girls high school.

Nyambura said she is the only hope in her family of six and she would like to become a doctor in the future.
