Jimi Wanjigi blasts Uhuru for persecuting him

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has told off President Uhuru Kenyatta over what he termed as harassment meant to intimidate him.

The billionaire, aligned to the NASA opposition coalition, was speaking moments after heavily armed police officers dramatically accosted him in an attempt to serve him a court order to appear in a Nyeri court.

Police sources tell Citizen Digital the court summons are related to the illegal ownership of firearms that saw his Muthaiga home residence raided in October.

Wanjigi, who was on his way home when the officers blocked his car on Kipande Road, near the Museums of Kenya, said the incident was a ploy to intimidate him.

“The other day it was my passport, the time before that was gun revocation, and as I said before, this is becoming comical, another day it was an obituary. It is a persecution,” said Wanjigi.

“I would like to address my old friend, he was my friend until he burst the door of my house, President Uhuru Kenyatta you will not be legitimate by persecuting Kenyans… You will not become legitimate by persecuting me,” said an agitated Wanjigi.

“Legitimacy is gotten from the people of Kenya and you cannot force yourself on anybody. There is nothing any of us is doing that is against the law, we are exercising our democratic rights as enshrined in the constitution,” he added

Wanjigi who was speaking to the media at Museum Hill after the incident further cast doubt on whether he would appear at the Nyeri law courts as per the summons saying he was not aware what the summons were about.

“I have anticipatory bail in two courts, why should you come for me in such a manner?” queried Wanjigi.

Wanjigi’s lawyer, Willis Otieno termed the incident as unfortunate and a blatant violation of his client’s human rights.

“We believe this is continued harassment and intimidation meant to achieve a vindictive political agenda… The state is abusing the law to intimidate and harass its people,” said Mr. Otieno.

“Court summons are served at the residence or the workplace, not streets. They could have even served his known counsels, but to brandish guns on a busy highway in five cars and assault weapons shows how low we have come,” he added.

The lawyer further noted that the summons did not even disclose what offence Wanjigi was appearing in court for adding that his client has not committed any offence or been in Nyeri in the last one year.
