Jimi Wanjigi charged with being in possession of illegal firearms

Billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi has been charged in a Nyeri court with importing and being in possession of illegal firearms.

Mr. Wanjigi was charged with 11 counts before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo who ordered Mr. Wanjigi, who was not in court, to appear on Monday, March 5.

He is charged of being in possession of illegal firearms; a ceska pistol, a glock 19, a shot gun, a semi-automatic self loading military assault rifle calibre.

For the ceska and glock pistols, the alleged NASA chief financier, is charged with owning them without a firearm certificate while with the assault rifle, he is charged with being in possession of a prohibited firearm.

The guns are alleged to have been found in his home in Muthaiga suburb, Nairobi during a raid in October and at Luedecke & Co. Ltd situated at Uganda House in Nairobi. Another discovery was made at Armame Kenya Ltd situated at Utalii House, Nairobi.

The businessman had snubbed the court summons claiming he was not aware of the charges that had been leveled against him.

Wanjigi’s lawyer Kiogora Mugambi requested the court to defer the case for two weeks but the judge instead gave them until Monday.
