Jimi Wanjigi father to miss court date

Billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi’s father, Maina Wanjigi, will not appear in a Nyeri court to face firearm charges as he is recovering from surgery.

According to his lawyer Kiogora Mugambi, Maina Wanjigi recently underwent surgery and is at home recuperating and could not make the journey to Nyeri.

Mr. Maina was summoned to appear and answer to charges of failing to keep safe custody of a firearm a day after his son Jimi was charged with 11 counts of being in possession of illegal firearms.

The NASA coalition allied businessman who spectacularly fell out with the Jubilee administration was charged on Thursday, March 1,  before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo.

He was charged for being in possession of illegal firearms; a ceska pistol, a glock 19, a shot gun, a semi-automatic self loading military assault rifle calibre.

The High Court in Nairobi however stopped the Nyeri magistrate court proceedings against him until a case filed at the same court is heard and determined.

“I hereby stop the intended proceedings and issue a stay in criminal case no.251 /2018,” the court ruled.
