Jimmy Wanjigi still missing as court issues warrant

Controversial businessman Jimmy Wanjigi is still in hiding and police strongly believe he is holed up in his palatial home in Muthaiga, Nairobi where security officers camped through the night.

Citizen Digital has learnt that police have obtained a warrant to search all of Wanjigi’s properties and they intend to conduct a forceful entry into a strongroom where they suspect he has locked himself up.

The warrant allows the police to “enter and search the premises/dwelling houses inhabited whether temporarily or permanently” by Wanjigi.

Security agents were granted permission to “open, search, have access, seize, remove and carry away, firearms ammunition and explosives, as well as documents related to importation of weapons.”

More officers drawn from the Flying Squad, General Service Unit (GSU) and Special Crime Prevention department moved into the 44 Muthaiga Road house Tuesday morning with heavily armed policemen on guard outside the gate.

Officers were seen moving into the house with a toolbox and equipment including bolt cutters and sledgehammers, an indication that they intended to force their way into rooms they were unable to access.

Head of Flying Squad Said Mohamed on Monday said detectives had gone after Wanjigi to question him over links to the cache of weapons; five AK-47 rifles and 93 rounds of ammunition that were recovered at a house in Malindi.

Mr Said stated that police were giving the businessman time to surrender for questioning, vowing that they would not relent in their quest to probe him.

More details to follow…
