Jirongo, Wamalwa clash over Luhya leadership

The battle for supremacy between Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has taken a new twist after the later accused his colleague of being a Jubilee mole in the Luhya land.

Wamalwa and Jirongo have been at loggerheads over who should be the ultimate leader of western Kenya with Jirongo accusing the Water CS of working with the ‘enemy’.

The two are now said to be fighting over who becomes the community leader and which coalition to support in the 2017 General Elections.

Jirongo accuses Wamalwa of being used by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to divide the Luhya community to Jubilee administration’s advantage.

He further alleges that the Water CS is taking advantage of his position in the government to manipulate the voters as well as to woo them to vote for the Jubilee administration.

He now wants Mr Wamalwa to stick to his job and stop engaging in politics since public servants are not supposed to participate in any forms of politics.

Jirongo was speaking on Sunday after a church fundraiser in Likuyani constituency.

Wamalwa, who was also in attendance, had a difficult time trying to dismiss the allegations with the locals chanting anti-Jubilee slogans and accusing him of being a traitor.

He, however, dismissed the supremacy battle claims saying all leaders from the region are equal and no leader is more popular than the other and that all of them have to work together for the unity of Kenyans.

This comes even as Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale and his Bungoma counterpart Moses Wetangula called on all Luhya leaders to join hands and support the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) in the 2017 polls.

He accused the Jubilee administration of failing to addressing the rising economic inequalities and corruption in the government.
