JKIA officials hiding from Miguna lawyers

Kenyan lawyers to the besieged Miguna Miguna were on Tuesday evening forced to pin a court order for his release on the airport wall after officials apparently went into hiding.

Led by Senator James Orengo, the lawyers termed it a cowardly act saying they would bring it to the attention of the judge who expects Mr. Miguna to appear in court on Wednesday.

“It is contemptuous and unfortunate that government officers are afraid receiving lawful court orders. We hope he will be released tonight,” Mr. Orengo told Citizen TV.

Lady Justice R.E. Aburili had earlier issued a court order for the immediate release of Mr. Miguna who arrived in the country on Monday night but has been in police custody at the airport since then.

The document names Immigration officials and OCPD of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as respondents.

Though the media and his Kenyan lawyers have been denied access to the self-proclaimed leader of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Citizen  TV has since established that he is locked up in a room at the airport.

Canadian embassy staff were allowed in to see Mr. Miguna alongside an official from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

He was apparently injured on his left arm during a botched attempt by airport security staff to deport him to Dubai aboard an Emirates plane.

It remains to be seen whether the court order for his release will be implemented.
