JKUAT student shot dead in robbery attempt

A second year student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Arts and Technology (JKUAT) in Kiambu County was shot dead on Wednesday night by thugs as he was heading home.

The 20-year-old who was pursuing a bachelor ‘s degree in business and information technology was making his way to the hostel when two robbers armed with pistols gunned him down.

Juja OCPD Patricia Nasio who confirmed the incident said the student was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital in Jomo Kenyatta University where he had been rushed for treatment.

“At 9:30 pm the  student was going home after his studies and on approaching Oasis area two men emerged from nearby forest, one with a pistol which he used to shoot the student in the head,” she said.

According to the Jomo Kenyatta University Student leader Anyungu Wangungu, the two thugs were trying to confiscate a laptop from the student but he resisted which led to the shooting.

University Association Secretary General Joel Onono said cases of insecurity had been reported in the area, adding that two suspects had been arrested on Tuesday.

The student leaders appealed to the county government to step in and solve the insecurity problem in the area.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem as police launch investigations into the matter.
