Joho explains long absence from his county

Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho has defended his lengthy absence from his county saying that he needed “some time out.”

“First of all I traveled for work, then I took time out. I have been travelling way before I was a politician and sometimes I need time to think and re- energize,” said Joho.

Speaking during an interview with a local channel in Kakamega, Joho noted that service delivery was smooth adding that no one who sought services of the county government and missed them while he was away.

“I was not missing, I was away on some other matters but I had a functional government. I have a competent team in office,” said Joho.

He insisted it was important to set up structures that function when you are in or out of the country saying: “Politicians are also human beings and we are allowed to take a vacation,”

“I thank God am blessed enough to pay for my own travel,” added Joho.

The governor has however reiterated his commitment as the governor of Mombasa saying that he will continue to represent the interest of Mombasa and the issues that affect the people.

Joho at the same time called for synergy from county and national government in a bid to fully implement devolution which he says is long yearned for.
