Joho to sue government over intimidation

Embattled Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho now says he is moving to court to sue the government over what he claims is intimidation and harassment.

Joho says he has been blocked from accessing the Malindi Police Station to record a statement as he had been ordered by police bosses over alleged robbery with violence due to a heavy GSU presence.

The ODM governor was accompanied by opposition CORD principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi among others, who later met at a Malindi hotel.

Police had summoned Joho and six other coast leaders to record statements over alleged involvement in robbery with violence and several other incidents of violence in the March 7th Malindi by-election.

Others summoned are Governor Kingi, Women Representative Aisha Jumwa, Senator Steward Madzayo, and MPs Suleiman Dori, Abdulswamad Nassir and Agostino Neto, coming after the court barred the state, from withdrawing Joho’s licensed firearms.

Over the past couple of months, Joho has had numerous clashes with state agencies – incidences that he says have been brought about by his political affiliation.

The vocal Governor first clashed with Uhuru on January 9th at the Waitiki title deed ceremony, an exchange that did not go down well with Jubilee supporters.

Shortly after, Customs Bonded Facilities (CFSs) linked to the Mombasa governor were shut down, leading opposition leaders to allege that Jubilee was using state resources to ‘punish’ Joho – an allegation that the taxman was quick to refute.
