Joho’s security detail reinstated eight months later
Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho’s security detail has been reinstated.
This comes eight months after Joho’s bodyguards were withdrawn by the state in what it termed then as a routine security reshuffle, even as the ODM Deputy Party leader intimated it was all political.
Mombasa Urban OCPD, Lucas Ogara, confirmed the reinstatement of security guards both at Joho’s Mombasa residence and at his office, saying he is entitled to them as an elected leader.
In January, Joho’s security was switched in what the government termed as routine with the Governor opting not to retain the new ones ahead of the polls, coming at a time he was also involved in a public spat with Jubilee leaders led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Police on January 10, 2017 announced that bodyguards for Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi were reinstated after re-organisation following concerns that they had more than 15 officers attached to them.
Joho thereafter, however, rejected the security detail sent to him by the national government claiming that it was a scheme to ‘eliminate him’.
There was then a perceived conflict between the Jubilee administration and Governor Joho, following a series of verbal altercations between the governor and the Jubilee leaders.
Joho further alleged that some people within the government were plotting to eliminate him and other local leaders following their tough political stand against the Jubilee Government, but maintained that they would not be scared or intimidated.
The two governors believed their security teams were pulled due to their criticism of the Jubilee Administration.
