Jomvu MP Twalib wades into Mombasa port MD wrangles

Jomvu MP Badi Twalib has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to end the controversy surrounding the position of the Mombasa port managing director.

Twalib wants the Head of State to officially confirm the current acting director Daniel Manduku as boss.

“Revenue has increased because of Manduku’s managerial skills and it’s not a must for a local person to fill in the position,” he said on Saturday.

Manduku has been the acting managing director after the resignation of Catherine Mturi Wairi in May.

Some of his pledges include increasing the number of containers the Mombasa Port handles to two million containers by 2020.

According to him, the increase in volume of cargo at East Africa’s biggest port will result in a rise in revenue from Ksh.50billion in July alone to about Ksh.100 billion monthly.

The Kenya Ports Authority Board had initially said that Manduku would act for two months.

However, in August his term was extended by four months.
