Journalists clash with Kisumu official over Governor Nyongos travels

Kisumu County Executive for Tourism Archie Alai and journalists from the region engaged in a war of words over queries about Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s frequent overseas trips.

In a press conference on Wednesday, one journalist questioned the CEC about the said trips but was shut down by a visibly angered Alai.

“That gripe needs to stop, it’s silly,” said Alai, adding that the county boss was well within his rights to travel so as to seek investors.

Kisumu journalists are now demanding for an apology from the county executive following her outburst.

Under the umbrella of Kisumu Journalists Network, led by Chairman Dickson Odhiambo, the members of the press termed Alai’s comments as derogatory and uncalled for, adding that she must be held accountable like any other public officer.

“We want to categorically state that the statement was very reckless, uncalled for and demeaning to journalists in the country and posses a big threat to freedom and independence of the media in Kenya,” said Mr Odhiambo.
