Jubilee declares singer Jaguar Starehe primaries winner

Musician Charles Kanyi Njagua, alias Jaguar, has been declared the winner of the Jubilee Party Starehe Parliamentary primaries held on Wednesday, April 26.

The Jubilee Party National Elections Appeals Tribunal declared Jaguar the winner after he contested the results declaring the incumbent, Maina Kamanda, the winner in the primaries.

In its ruling, the Tribunal argued that Mr Jaguar won in 25 polling stations but the results were altered at the Constituency Tallying Centre at Jamhuri High School.

The Tribunal, under the leadership of Lawyer Faith Waigwa, further ruled that the declaration forms had fake signatures of the returning officers at the polling station.

The Tribunal, however, declined to grant a prayer by Mr Jaguar to have the cast votes scrutinized saying that the circumstances do not allow for the same.

“The Complainant had also prayed that he be declared the winner of the nominations of the Member of Parliament, Starehe Constituency. Based on the evidence adduced before the Tribunal by the Complainant, which the 1st Respondent could not substantially rebut, the Tribunal finds the Complainant’s evidence on alterations of his results garnered at the tallying centre is so compelling that it is clear that he had won in the nominations exercise as per the results at the polling stations whose alterations at the tallying centre we found to have happened,” argued the Tribunal.

“Accordingly, the Tribunal hereby overturns the results as declared by the Returning Officer Starehe Constituency declaring Hon. William Maina Kamanda as the winner and declares Charles Njagua Kanyi as the winner and candidate of Jubilee Party Member of Parliament Starehe Constituency and directs that he be issued with the nominations certificate,” ruled the Tribunal.

Upon being declared the winner, Jaguar entertained his jubilant supporters who had assembled outside the Jubilee Party Headquarters in Nairobi’s Pangani area.
