Jubilee disowns Ruto-allies Naivasha retreat

Raphael Tuju has pulled a fast one on a section of Jubilee legislators who had reportedly retreated to Naivasha for a ‘Parliamentary Group’ (PG) meeting.

The Jubilee Party Secretary General argued that such a meeting would only hold water if it was convened and chaired by the party leader- President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He noted that while Jubilee was not opposed to such gatherings, they should not be confused for official party gatherings.

“Any resolutions of any meeting not convened in accordance with the provisions of the party constitution are not the official party resolutions,” his statement reads.

Some allies of DP Ruto led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria had claimed the meeting would serve as the ruling party’s Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting.

Kuria also said the retreat would also come up with Jubilee’s official position on the controversial Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

However, the Naivasha retreat was snubbed by a section of Jubilee MPs allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

They claim that it had been disguised as a forum for constitutional reforms yet it is not.

They dismissed the meeting saying it was organized for selfish gains and was meant to divide Kenya through parallel BBI rallies.

Ruto allies have been pushing President Kenyatta for over two years to convene a parliamentary group meeting to discuss a slew of issues said to be threatening to break the party.
