Jubilee leaders in Malindi to pick by election candidate
The Jubilee Coalition has heightened its search for a suitable candidate for the Malindi Constituency by election slated for March this year.
This was evident as Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday held talks with political, opinion and religious leaders from the seven constituencies of Kilifi County with the aim of identifying a suitable candidate for Malindi Constituency as well as drumming up support for the unified Jubilee Party in the area.
The high profile delegation of Jubilee leaders met with over 5000 leaders drawn from the seven constituencies of Kilifi County.
So far, Philip Charo and Lucas Maitha have expressed interest in the Jubilee Coalition ticket but talks are underway to convince one of them to step down for the other.
DP Ruto however maintained focus on 2017 contest and the need to have Kilifi county leadership in government.
ODM, which had won the seat in 2013 through Dan Kazungu who has been appointed cabinet secretary, has however vowed to work hard to retain the seat.
The party is yet to decide who becomes its candidate for the March by election.
