Jubilee leaders urge supporters to register as voters, shun mass action

A section of Jubilee leaders has warned the party’s supporters against taking part in mass action over the election amendment laws and instead focus on registering as voters ahead of next year’s General Election.

The leaders, who attended the burial of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s brother Charles Regeru Kuria said the mass action could lead to a situation such as that witnessed during the 2007/2008 pose election violence.

Speaking to mourners, Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa noted that Jubilee leaders want peaceful elections such as those witnessed during the 2013 General Election.

“We all know calls for mass action lead to tension then confrontation then conflict which leads to deaths. Mass action is the cause of all chaos, we fought against it in 2013 by opting for consultations and compromise, a position we want to be maintained in 2017. Let’s focus on mass voter registration instead of mass action which we all know where it takes the country,” he said.

Voicing his support for the election laws amendments, Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo said that the manual system would ensure smooth elections in 2017 and rubbished speculations that the move was aimed at rigging the elections.

“We are positive that Jubilee shall win, our call for changes in the electoral law is only meant to provide an alternative mechanism to ensure politics proceed well. We do not need extra favors, we have God’s favor, we shall win 2017 polls,” he said.

“Digital systems can’t exist without a manual system because they fail and we all know that. Let’s go for mass registration as others go for mass action,” said Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw’a and Kiambu Women Representative Annah Nyokabi.
