Jubilee MP announces plan to defect to KANU

Kuresoi South Member of Parliament, Zakayo Cheruiyot, has hinted at a possibility of defending his seat on a Kanu ticket in the 2017 General Election.

Speaking at Catholic Church in his Constituency on Sunday, November 20, the Jubilee MP also hinted at a partnership with Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto ahead of the next elections.

The former Permanent Secretary in retired President Daniel Moi’s government, however, challenged voters to look at an individual’s development agenda and not their party affiliation.

“Nobody should force me to use a Range Rover vehicle in the rural areas where I know it will be a tough travel,” said the MP figuratively.

Senator Gideon Moi of Baringo, who spoke briefly before flying to Bomet Stadium for interdenominational prayers and homecoming for Governor Isaac Ruto concurred with MP Cheruiyot and called on Kenyans not to elect anybody based on their party but manifesto.

On several occasions, MP Cheruiyot, an avowed critic of the Deputy President William Ruto, has slammed Jubilee leadership over runaway corruption and called for a change of guard in the country’s leadership.

His move was hailed by Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat who called on the constituents to ensure he clinches the seat.

Deputy President William Ruto is expected to visit the constituency this week in what has been seen as efforts to retain a hold in the region.
