Jubilee MP denies endorsing Wamalwa for Nairobi governorship

Kieni MP, Kanini Kega, has dismissed reports that he endorsed Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa for the Nairobi governorship seat.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Kega said that he was alarmed by reports that he had endorsed Wamalwa for the position noting that his pronouncements in support of the Water CS governorship bid were personal.

“I want to make it clear that the proposition of Wamalwa for the position of Nairobi governorship is personal, but if it is bought by the President and his deputy and the leadership of Nairobi, so be it,” he said.

“I am shocked that when I mentioned the name of Eugene I was told am endorsing him. I do not even have the mandate to endorse a candidate.”

He warned Jubilee legislators against claiming President Kenyatta has endorsed Wamalwa saying anyone who has an alternative name should table it.

He, however, noted that the stir that has been caused by the interest of Wamalwa in the race indicates that he is a strong candidature for the position.

The MP further claimed that there are MPs within Jubilee who are pretending to forward a certain candidate yet their interest in seeing CORD’s Evans Kidero retain his seat.

He said that Jubilee was ready to embrace everyone regardless of where their ethnic affiliation as a move to unite the country ahead of the next polls.

On IEBC, Mr Kega said that it was wrong for CORD to seek a political settlement to an issue that may have dire consequences on the country’s stability.

He said that they would not agree to CORD’s proposal to have IEBC commissioners appointed by political parties since doing so will only invite individuals out to defend their demands of their parent parties.

“If we are to seek a different solution to this issue, we should invite religious leaders because they can be trusted to out the country forward in their deliberations,” he said.

This comes as a meeting between CORD and Jubilee members if the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee adjourned following a standoff over the mode of picking commissioners and demands for a fresh voter register.
