Jubilee MP wants court to compel IEBC to hold election

Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Jude Njomo has filed a case seeking to compel the electoral commission to hold the fresh presidential election as ordered by the Supreme Court.

The lawmaker argues that the withdrawal of NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga is geared towards creating a political and constitutional crisis as it is unfounded and not supported by the constitution.

In his supporting affidavit, Njomo says that Raila’s withdrawal cannot lead to a cancellation of an election.

“The withdrawal of Raila is not binding as it was not done in accordance with the law,” argues the lawmaker.

He claims that it is in public interest that the orders sought be granted forthwith and hearing and determination of the petition be fast tracked as a matter of public interest.

Njomo says that the court has a sacred duty to ensure the fresh presidential election is held as ordered by the Supreme Court and that any attempt or political conspiracy to establish a government by triggering a constitutional crisis.

NASA principals and the IEBC have been named as respondents.
