Jubilee MPs behaved badly at The Hague tarnishing our name – Namwamba

Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba has condemned Jubilee legislators for tarnishing the country’s image over International Criminal Court (ICC) cases facing Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Arap Sang.

Speaking at Port Victoria in his constituency on Saturday, Namwamba said the government should confine it’s shameful acts within the boundaries of Kenya and stop exposing its wasteful nature to the international community.

The legislator questioned why more than 20 parliamentarians would fly to The Hague at the taxpayers’ expense.

He added the delegation from Kenya went to The Hague to ‘make noise’ at a globally recognised institution, not knowing they were embarrassing the state.

“There are some leaders who recently went to The Hague to make noise. All that shame they’re putting us through is going to be aired on international media,” said Namwamba.

“Leaders please keep your bad manners at home; stop exporting it to the international arena. You embarrass the country; you give the country a bad name. The noise that we make in the country shouldn’t be exported abroad.”

The lawmaker took a jab at the Jubilee government urging the administration to stop wishful thinking that Kenya can pull out of the Rome Statute by simply sending parliamentarians to ‘make noise’ at The Hague.

Namwamba added Kenyans want justice to prevail – but that cannot be achieved by sending few ‘selfish’ dignitaries abroad who claim they are representing the country’s collective views.

“We want justice to be done; but Kenya must remain a distinguished member of the international community,” he said, adding: “Kenya is a member of Rome Statue not by an individual’s choice but by the entire population’s.”

He said Kenyans have no intention of being outcasts to the international community as few leaders are insinuating at the Assembly’s State Parties forum.
